Assessment & Reporting.

We offer a range of structural damage and seismic assessment services for homeowners, contractors, insurers, and legal professionals.

Our assessments deliver clear, evidence based reporting to support recovery, reinstatement, and dispute resolution.

Residential Earthquake Damage Assessments

We provide independent earthquake damage assessments and reinstatement reports for standalone dwellings and multi-unit buildings.

Our team works closely with the Natural Hazards Commission (NHC) and major insurers, ensuring efficient collaboration and trusted outcomes.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery

The 2010–2011 Canterbury Earthquake Sequence (CES) caused damage to more than 167,000 insured homes.

Over a decade later, many Canterbury property owners continue to seek clarity on the adequacy of past assessments and repairs.

We provide independent inspections, forensic assessments, and clear reporting to help clients understand a property’s current condition, identify any legacy earthquake damage, and ensure remediation meets required structural and regulatory standards.

Uninsured ‘As Is Where Is’ Properties

If your property was uninsured during the CES, or you’ve purchased it without a transfer of insurance entitlements, we can assess earthquake related damage and recommend appropriate repair or reinstatement options.

Other Residential Damage Assessments

We also provide independent damage assessments for homes affected by flooding, landslides, severe storms, cyclones, or fire.

Flood & Cyclone Recovery

In early 2023, the Auckland Anniversary floods and Cyclone Gabrielle caused widespread residential damage across the North Island, generating over 100,000 insurance claims and billions in losses.

In Auckland alone, more than 1,700 homes were placarded as unsafe or restricted.

Our engineers provide independent assessments and clear reports to help homeowners, insurers, and legal professionals understand the extent of flood or wind damage, identify structural or land-stability risks, and determine appropriate reinstatement options.

Fire Damage Assessments

Fire can compromise a building’s structure in both visible and hidden ways.

We provide independent structural assessments to determine the extent of heat, smoke, and water damage — identifying what can be safely repaired and what requires replacement.

We work with homeowners, insurers, and contractors to ensure reinstatement is completed safely and in compliance with current standards.

Seismic Assessments of Commercial Buildings

Insurers, lenders, and councils are increasingly requiring seismic assessments to evaluate and manage earthquake risk.

Buildings identified as potentially earthquake-prone may be subject to formal assessment requests, and tenants or investors are now prioritising properties with higher seismic ratings — making a resilient building both safer and more marketable.

Initial Seismic Assessment (ISA)

An ISA provides an indicative measure of a building’s seismic performance.

It considers the building’s age, construction type, ground conditions, and location to estimate its likely performance in an earthquake.

Results are expressed as a percentage of New Building Standard (%NBS), giving an initial benchmark of how the building compares with modern design requirements.

An ISA is typically the first step in evaluating seismic resilience and determining whether further investigation or strengthening is warranted.

Detailed Seismic Assessment (DSA)

A DSA offers a more detailed and quantitative assessment, often following an ISA or commissioned independently where greater certainty is needed.

It involves structural analysis to identify vulnerabilities and provides a refined %NBS result.

Our reports can include conceptual strengthening options and recommendations to help owners, investors, and project teams plan targeted seismic improvements.
